SOCIAL SCIENCE

                         Unit 6. Safety

In this last unit we are going to review some important concepts about transports and road safety.

Transports:

  • Water transports: boat, ship, submarine, ferry...
  • Road transports: car, lorry, taxi, bus, motorbike, bike...
  • Air transports: plane, helicopter, hot air balloon...

  Unit 5. Our country

The TEST will be next MONDAY 10th MAY 2021.

Population is all the people living in a place.

Male and female

Groups of population: children, adults and older people.

Rural population lives in villages.

Urban population lives in towns and cities.

Population is all the people living in one place.

Our country is Spain.

The capital city is Spain.

There are 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities.

Each autonomous community has its own parliament and president.

Each autonomous communitu is different. Spain´s official language is spanish. Some autonomous communities have another language as well:

In Cataluña people speak Catalan.

In País Vasco people speak Basque.

In Galicia people speak Gallego.

All the autonomous communities have important:

Monuments

Museums

Festivals

Food

Music

Dance

 Unit 4. Landscapes

The test will be next Monday 22 MARCH 2021

A landscape is an are with different landforms.

There are 3 types of landscapes:

Mountain landscapes have mountains and valleys.

Flat landscapes have plateaus and plains.

Coastal landscapes are next to the sea.

  • MOUNTAIN LANDSCAPES: We can find different landforms such as: mountains, valleys and mountains ranges.
  • FLAT LANDSCAPES: We can find plains, plateaus and hills.
  • COASTAL LANDSCAPES: We can find gulfs, capes, bays, peninsulas, islands, archipelagos, cliffs, beaches and ports.

Landscapes

RIVERS

We need to study and locate the following rivers:

  • Miño
  • Duero
  • Tajo
  • Guadiana
  • Guadalquivir
  • Ebro
  • Júcar
  • Segura

You can practice here with this map.

MOUNTAIN SYSTEMS

  • Pyrenees
  • Cantabrian System
  • Central System
  • Iberian System
  • Beatic System
URBAN and RURAL landscapes

RECYLCE, REUSE and REDUCE

We can create a project at home to represent different LANDFORMS...

We are going to study: mountains, mountain range, mountain chain, plains, valleys, rivers, cliff, cape, port, gulf beach, bay and island.

Here you have some ideas...

UNIT 3. THE ATMOSPHERE AND THE WEATHER

tEST will be next WEDNESDAY 17th February 2021

The atmosphere is a layer of gases around the Earth. There are three layers:

  • TROPOSPHERE: it is the closest to the Earth. Weather occurs here.
  • STRATOSPHERE: it is the next layer. Planes are in this layer. There is a layer that protects from the Sun rays.
  • IONOSPHERE: it is the furthest layer from the Earth. Galaxies and rockets are in this layer.

TYPES OF WEATHER

Clouds are made of water drops.

Wind moves the clouds.

When they cool, the water drops fall as precipitation.

There are 3 types of precipitation:

-SNOW

-RAIN

-HAIL

WIND

Wind is air in motion. There are three types of wind:

  • BREEZE: is soft wind.
  • GALE: is strong wind.
  • HURRICANE: is very strong wind.

INSTRUMENTS FOR MEASURING WEATHER.
  • Wind vane: indicates wind direction.
  • Rain Gauge: measures rainfall

  • Thermometer: measures the temperature.
  • Anemometer: measures wind speed.

WEATHER FORECAST
Weather forecasts use symbols on a weather map to represent different types of weather.
We can find the weather forecast on television, in a newspaper or on the Internet.

 UNIT 2. OUR WORLD

The TEST will be this Thursday 17th December 2020.

We are going to start studying the CONTINENTS and OCEANS from last year.

We will have a MINI TEST (map) where they have to write the CONTINENTS and the OCEANS. It will be next Wednesday, 9th December 2020.

We need to know that there are 7 continents:

  • North America
  • South America
  • Europe
  • Asia
  • Africa
  • Australia
  • Antarctica

There are 4 main oceans:

  • Atlantic Ocena
  • Indian Ocean
  • Pacific Ocean
  • Artcic Ocean

The Earth is a sphere that rotates on its axis.

The EQUATOR is an imaginary line that divides the Earth into:

     NORTHERN HEMISPHERE

     SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE.

SPAIN

We need to know where is: France and Portugal

Also we need to locate the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

WORLD MAP

We need to locate:

The United States

Canada

Brazil

Spain

The United Kingdom

Russia

China

Australia

CARDINAL POINTS

The cardinal points are:

North

South

East

West

UNIT 1. THE SOLAR SYSTEM

The test will be next Thursday 12th November 2020

Today we have started UNIT 1. The Solar System

In this  unit we are going to study:

- The Sun

-The Planets

-The Moon

-The Earth´s movements: rotation and revolution

-Time and phases of the Moon

-The Earth and its layers

THE SOLAR SYSTEM

The SUN is a star.  The Sun is at the centre of the Solar System.

The Moon is a satellite.

The Earth is a planet. There are 8 planets in the Solar System. they all move around the Sun. They are:

-Mercury

- Venus

-Earth

-Mars

-Jupiter

-Saturn

-Uranus

-Neptune

The Earth´s movements: rotation and revolution

REVOLUTION: is the movement of the Earth around the Sun. (Study definition)
It takes 365 days ir 1 year.
It causes 4 seasons: spring, summer autumn and winter.

ROTATION: is the Earth movement on its axis. (study definition)
It takes 24 hours or 1 day

It causes day and night.

Time and phases of the Moon

There are 365 days in a year.
There are 12 months in a year.
There are 4 seasons in a year.
There are 7 days in a week.
There are 24 hours in a day.

Seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Months: January, February,March,April, May, Junes, July, August, September, October, November and December.

Days of the week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

The Moon
The Moon is the Earth’s satellite. The Moon goes around the Earth. It takes 28 days to go around the Earth.
There are four different phases:
Full Moon
New Moon
Waning Moon
Waxing Moon

The layers if the Earth

The Earth is surrounded by air.
In the surface we can find WATER and LAND( continents and islands).

There are 3 layers:

The CORE: is in the centre of the Earth.
The MANTLE: is in the middle.
The CRUST: is where we live.

Here you have an idea to do at home!

Using plasticine, you can create the 3 layers.

With this Power Point Presentation, we are going to review the main contents from 1st Grade.
